Story of Bhool Bhulaiyaa
- Manoj Joshi (Badrinath Chaturvedi) is the patriarch of a Brahmin family whose ancestral castle in Rajasthan was haunt by the ghost of Manjulika, a Bengali classical dancer. Besides, Siddharth Narayan Chaturvedi (Shiney Ahuja) and his wife, archaeologist Avni Chaturvedi (Vidya Balan), son and daughter-in-law of Badri’s older brother, arrive from the United States and choose to reside in his ancestral palace.
- Mesmerized by the story, Avni acquires a duplicate key to the third-floor bedroom and opens the locked and forbidden room containing Manjulika’s spirit. Strange events begin to occur in the palace.
- Siddharth begins to accuse Radha of unusual events. So, he calls his friend from New York, psychiatrist Dr. Aditya Shrivastav (Akshay Kumar), to find out what’s wrong with Radha.
- Aditya informs him that Avni, and not Radha, is the real culprit. Therefore, It reveals that Avni suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder, a mental illness that alters a person’s identity and makes him believe that he is someone else. And at one point, Avni is out of sight and transforms into Manjulika.
- Aditya hatches a complex plan to heal Avni forever. And also, informs Radha, for whom she has developed feelings, that if she is interested in marrying him, she will send her parents, to which Radha, delighted, silently agrees.
